1. The first step in closet design is to define your needs. Hands-On provides FREE in-home consultation for your project. We will measure the length of hanging clothes, count sweaters and shoes all in order to provide adequate storage for specific needs. Open shelving provides easy access and helps organize clothing and slanted shelves are great for shoe storage.
2. You can never have too large a closet, "beg, borrow or steal" space from other rooms to supplement this area where you start each day. Nearby bonus rooms are ideal or considering creative solutions for more storage in your laundry room. We offer both wall-hung systems AND floor-based systems or a combination of each depending on the application. Talk to one of our designers today to help educate you on the differences. 3. In closets with 10 foot high ceilings, clever pull-down racks that store clothes up high can take advantage of every inch of closet space.
4. Natural light will help make accurate color selection. In your pre-construction phase, try to include a window centered in the closet design when possible.
5. The spectrum of closet furnishings ranges from low-end wire shelves and rods to customized ornate wood and glass shelves, drawers and islands. Hands-On offers a wide variety of styles, finishes and functions for everything from valet rods, to sliding tie and belt racks, to tilt-out hamper units as well.
6. In large master closets, a center island can be used on all four sides and provides a useful horizontal surface for folding or laying out clothing.
7. Material and finishes is where Hands-On truly excedes the typical limitations of your typical closet franchise. We manufacture all components here in Cornelius, NC and offer an in-house paint and stain department with all three material price points (melamine, MDF and stained wood). Lastly, we take special requests for exotic materials such as teak, bamboo and engineered 'green' products using recycled materials and renewable resources such as sunflower seeds!
